TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSITIONS - MAKING SENSE OF IT ALL IN THE WORLD OF iBUSINESS

Today's blog post is going to be about transitions, and keeping your business current in today's technological world. And it's no surprise - just look at our world and think about the world of ten years ago. Ten years ago, a cloud was that cumulus thing in the sky, almost everyone had "dumb" phones, and your music was on a round circular thing that was very easily scratched - I should know. Most of my older music collection circa 2002 and prior skips like mad. But what can I say? Technology and I have always been close. I'm always interested in the latest gadget, gizmo, or software that makes my life easier. But - let's not limit ourselves. Let's seriously take a dive into how technology has transitioned the professional world. 

Twenty-five years ago, listing yourself in the phone book was the most widely accepted way of getting your businesses' name out on the street. It was our analog Internet and it worked pretty well considering. The problem with all that paper was expansion. Your business grew as far as that phone book reached. 

When Bell Systems launched the "Reach Out and Touch Someone" campaign in the 1970s - I'm sure even they weren't sure how seriously we would take that statement. By the 1990s - the Internet was gearing up to become a major player. By the 2000s - cell phones began to replace the tried-and-true landline as the primary method of voice communication and today, there are more successful businesses that deliver a web-only presence rather than the old-fashioned bricks and mortar. Darn right we took it seriously. We want our businesses to reach as many targeted people as possible - enter, web marketing. 

Marketing practices of old would tell you to go to an ad agency, drop five figures, and wait for them to develop an ad campaign. Those days are also...over. Yes, it's the web companies (in other words, us guys) who are delivering the 1-2 punch of marketing for your business. We're the vehicles that lead you to social media, web development, content management, search engine ranking, and online retail. In other words, its the web guys, with the funny hats and the geeky glasses that have their finger on the pulse of professional business. Yep, we said it here, folks. 

We love the web - and see it growing every single day. It's where people want to be. And if that's where people want to be - it's where your business NEEDS to be. The beauty of this transition is that it puts and entire marketing department at your fingertips on an "as need" basis. 

Let's say this, you are Joe or Jane CEO. You run a small to mid-sized firm with about 25 employees. Your company, like everybody else, is starting to feel the pinch of the economy and your company had to downsize - losing a lot of key players in your day to day operations.
